The Saimaa Seal Trail (Activities, Nature, natural sites and attractions, Retkeilyreitit ja luontopolut, Snowshoeing)

The circular trail is 13 km long. The route is somewhat less strenuous when walking clockwise. For a shorter hike, choose one of the three smaller loops (Kitulan lenkki 3 km, Kaivannon kieppi 4 km or Kotkatsaaren kierros 2.8 km). Norppapolku is one of the geosites in the Saimaa Geopark. The trail is marked with yellow ribbons on trees. The last few kilometres run along a snowmobile track, so please use caution in the winter.

The trail winds though coniferous forests, rocky beaches and wetlands. Please note that the cliff overlook at Kataalahti requires some climbing, and is not recommended for people with limited mobility. The island of Kotkatsaari has lovely beaches on the eastern shore and near the pier. There is also a campfire site and an outhouse by the pier. Kaivanto Island has a supply of drinking water. Please use caution near the logging site on Kaivanto Island.

Building a fire is only allowed at designated campfire sites when weather conditions are safe. Please remember that backpackers also have responsibilities. Do not camp near the trail, respect nature and do not litter.
