The scarps of Haukkovuori (Shops)

The scarps of Haukkovuori rise 81m above the surface of Saimaa and are an impressive sight, particularly when seen from the lake. The area is a model example of the “watercourse valley” relating to a fault in the bedrock deepened and cleaned of fragmented rock material by the continental ice sheet. There is difference in elevation of more than 100 metres from the top of Haukkovuori to the deepest point of Haukkolahti. The bedrock is a mix of garnet-cordierite-mica gneiss and granite dikes, typical for the area.
