Puumala – the most beautiful place on Lake Saimaa
Puumala, the archipelago municipality, is located on the Lake Saimaa waterway in between Savonlinna and Lappeenranta. The area of outstanding natural beauty on the Lietvesi scenic route is one of Finland’s most frequently photographed lake landscapes. Stunning landscapes also surround the Puumalansalmi bridge and the scenic café at the top of the bridge tower.
At the foot of the bridge, boaters and people following the Veskansa canoeing route are served by one of Lake Saimaa’s busiest harbours, where summer markets are held. On the Puumala lake shore, visitors can take in the almost Mediterranean atmosphere of the summer village, go on a scenic cruise or pay a visit to the Lasiruusu glass workshop. Popular attractions include Sahanlahti, the beautiful wooden church in Puumala and Niinisaari.
The Puumala Tourist Information shop sells souvenirs, postcards and a canoeing map of the popular Veskansa routes.
