29 hectares large forest area around the Kommeli caves has been founded as heritage forest by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The forests in the area are very versatile.
Kommeli caves are a popular tourist destination. According to the folklore, demons and fairies inhabit the caves. The best-known resident is called “The Old Man of Kommeli”.
The cave is 11 meters deep with a mouth of about 4 meters high. The height of the cave varies between 1,5 and 4 meters. The width of the cave is 1-4 meters.
Direction signs leading to the caves start from Pyhälammentie Road, Rantakylä. Approximately one kilometer long path starts after going under Lahdentie Road, at address Kommelintie 8. Please note that Pyhälammentie Road is not suitable for buses.
